Day 14 - Amarillo, TX
Shamrock, Amarillo and Vega, TX Pictured is the Conoco Station and U-Drop-In Café, known for its iconic neon lights. Unfortunately, I wasn’t there at night, so you can’t really see them, but it was still a pretty neat-looking building. From there, I stopped by the Devil’s Rope Museum, which is a tribute to barbed wire. Interestingly, the building itself was once a bra factory! Next, I headed toward Amarillo, where I found a Buc-ee’s with a really nice welcome mural. Did you know there’s not only a Cadillac Ranch, which you’ll see in the pictures, but also a VW Bug Ranch? Of course, I had to check that out too. After that, I visited Palo Duro Canyon. It was absolutely huge, and I have to admit, I was a little surprised to see mountains in the “flat” state of Texas! LOL. My last stop was the city of Vega, where I took lots of pictures of the various statues around town. I also got a picture of a rotor blade from one of the wind turbines that are so common out here. I think I’ve passed at least five or six trucks hauling these blades, either taking them in for repairs or delivering new ones. New Mexico is up next tomorrow!
